Hello! Thanks everyone who came down for Alfresco and who contributed in some way or other :)

The Guitar Hero idea was pretty cool, so thanks to the guys who thought it up. And Lauren Sim and Audrey, who brought the stuff. Jeslyn, Kian, Kai Shun, Shannon and Ben who helped out at the stall, Krystal who came by, and of course Shirleen and Yiling for trying it out in class with amusing results XD

Last but not least, Piong! Thanks for rushing around and helping lots. And especially so when we handed in the form late ):

Haha we did fairly well; raised about 50 dollars. Not bad considering we had no start up cost :)

Our NAPHA test finally came to an end and

we have certainly achieved fruitful results from it.

Congrats to the guys who passed!!!
(They can serve the nation 2 months lesser now =P - so not patriotic right? lolx)

Congrats to the girls too. Heard they did wonderfully well and hence we should acknowledge their achievements. Yay. Maybe we should single out Evadne. Her 2.4km run was 11:28 (i think) and that's very fast for a girl!! She beat our class guys on the route to her success too. Congrats to her once again :)

Once again, we should be happy for each other as we did relatively well. For those who didn't pass, don't sulk. Try harder and you'll definitely achieve a pass in the end and hopefully serve 2 months lesser during NS for the guys :)

OH-EIGHT TIMES THREE

hello all!

as i write this post, we're almost done with common tests. it's only econs left! but then again, we cannot leave out the events of the rest of the year. as it's only once in our lifetime (even more rare than a leap year), we have to make sure the 08/08/08 class outing goes well!(in fact the difference has to be 1000 years. alright just a thought.) i'd like to start early in the planning stages now by asking for suggestions, so we have a great deal of time before the date reaches. more time to plan = less room for error and i'm sure all of you want this to go well :)

firstly, simple rules we will want to stick to:

1) EVERYONE MUST COME. no matter how busy you are, MAKE TIME FOR OUR BELOVED CLASS! another simple reason why i started planning this early is to give you SUPER ADVANCE NOTICE so you have NO REASON not to go. check your schedules and rearrange! :)

2) EVERYONE HAS TO MAKE A SELECTION! if we hang around with 'i'm okay with anything' or 'anything also can', the decision is not going to be good. even if you think others may not like it, SUGGEST! you never know if we decide on your idea. after all everyone has a voice in this. so, at least agree with an already-made selection or think up your own! :)

alright i'm going to start the ball rolling by giving ONE suggestion. for the rest of you, please add your selections on the tagboard please! (whoops i just realised only the author of the post can edit it! :D)

BEN--SENTOSA! without a doubt. we can play ultimate beach frisbee, volleyball or go race down the kart thingy! i mean, even sitting on the beach is so relaxing. people who wanna go swimming can, others can ride bikes, or if you're a bit insane, visit underwater world again and again XD (after all jeslyn has a discount, i think.) the only thing about going to sentosa is that it's probably a bit costlier than if we visit other mainstream places (e.g watching movies or having meals). but that's where the fun is! mainstream is BOOORING. hmm actually if we want to save a bit of money, we can turn it into a pot-luck picnic! omg the thought is already killing me. support support support! :D this idea is supported by JESLYN, SARAH AND SHARON.

PIONG--CLUB MED BINTAN (forty-five minutes away from singapore!) this is becoming a more popular decision, although we have to calculate and work our prices. it'll be one hell of a class outing if it's successful because it's somewhere no one has ever gone. but then again, we have to do some reading up so as to know where to go and what to do to maximise our time there. we can probably make it a 3D2N thing since the weekend is right after 08/08/08. this is definitely an IDEAL class outing but can it be done? (whoops sorry about the GP XD) not many parents would allow, and then again the issue of whose parent should go along comes into play. i have a bad feeling that it's not easy to be granted permission from our pops, but who knows? we gotta try. this idea is supported by AUDREY.

DAWN--PARIS (no, not the pornstar cum crap singer, the country. and tickets are around $2000?)

MR MARK LI--OLD 1T08 CLASSROOM (convenient and super budget XD)

KAI SHUN--DOWNTOWN EAST. Activities may be a little bit similar to sentosa. But there is a myriad of activities there that aren't available in sentosa. Basically, the activities that can be held are similar to sentosa. We can also hold a mini-picnic there or even a bbq. After those activities (e.g. cycling, blading, swimming, beach volleyball, build sandcastles etc.), we can go to escape theme park or wild wild wet [but apparently, the cost may be deterring to some]. In any case if we are not holding a bbq but a picnic in the afternoon, we can go to fisherman's village. The seafood there is really good. For avid fishers, fishing is also an activity that you can take part in too :)

ONE YEAR OF MEMORIES

hello t8! i'm writing this in response to kai shun's previous post about class photos. i have compiled a file of photos (each and every single one taken by some form of image capturing device (be it video recorder, SLR, mobile phone, scanner or digital cameras). in total, we have clocked about 1,231 photos, which comes up to a whopping 1.6GB of data. i certainly do not have 21 DVDs to fit all of them, and due to a number of reasons, such as 1) it would be quite a waste of DVD since each one can hold 4.7GB and 2) it's not environmentally-friendly. so for those of you who want the photos, please pass me some form of data storage device that can hold 1.6GB of photos. i'm sure many of you will want it cos you have not seen at least a third of it before :P

anyway, do get back to me about when u want to pass me your media drives. at the same time, tell me if you're staying over for the class chalet! :)

class chalet finalisation & planning of activities

hi t8! promos and results are over so it's time to get down to planning the actual activities of the class chalet. firstly, we need suggestions on what we're gonna do there (since it's gonna be 3D2N).

here are a few suggestions we have already:
1) board & card games (whatever you have to bring, bring it! e.g. game of life, monopoly, twister, cluedo, truth/dare, etc.)

2) drinking games (involving water or similar so that nobody gets drunk, only bloated :P)

3) jeslyn suggested water bombs which would turn the entire chalet and the surrounding boundaries into a warzone, but still fun.

4) walks to old changi hospital/changi beach/changi village (this will be for the first night)

5) usual mainstream activites : cycling (i'm not sure if you can rent bikes there but i have a feeling you can), ball games/frisbee (we'll need to find a spot for this or we'll spend half the time trying to retrieve the ball back from the road with passing cars), or going crazy like shannon and simply headbanging to music in the chalet itself.

6) watch movies (someone bring a DVD player, especially a cheap-ass one, and darren can supply us with his entire collection of pirated movies so we can watch. or for those more insane ones, you can bring some microphones and karaoke xD)

7) the BBQ (for this we'll have to do a completely separate arrangement on the food, whether we're gonna do pot-luck, or purchase from outlets and increase the chalet funds. bbq pit should be provided, or we'll buy a few from supermarkets using the class fund.)

also, we need to know which one of you are staying over on which night (so we can determine if there will be enough sleeping spots for everyone. so if you see this, please TAG THE TAGBOARD with your name and tell me if you're staying over.)

Yet Another Class Chalet Update

Yep it's about $8 per person for the chalet, not including food and stuff, not the $24 mentioned earlier.

Any ideas for what kind of food to bring or what to do there? Write it on the class whiteboard (in case people didn't notice Kai Shun getting up to scribble it on the board during lessons), or tag :)

So far we've got cycling, board games, frisbee and erm...studying.

Food ideas now, I guess.

Oh yeah, "The double-storey terraces are fully furbished with living room set with TV and games table; dining area; 3 air-conditioned bedrooms, furbished with beds (1 queen-sized and 4 single-sized), wardrobe, dresser, bedside table and wall fan; 3 toilets /bath with shower heater; BBQ pit and a fully equipped kitchen."

So we need people to confirm whether they can stay so the sleeping arrangements can be drawn out :)

hello guys! apparently ALL chalets throughout singapore (including costa sands) have been FULLY BOOKED for 2,3 and 4th november, we have shifted the date back to the next blank slots for the most people: 10, 11, 12th december.

melody has kindly helped us book this chalet so the details are here:

okay guys. if you all remembered correctly, a few weeks before the promo exams audrey was putting up a few pieces of paper regarding a class chalet to take place after our exams. well now that it is after our exams, it's time to do some planning.

i'm helping audrey to do some pre-planning first cos she always seems to be rather busy. so i need you guys' feedback if we want to make this a success, alright? we don't have much time because the holiday season is coming right up and the chalets all over singapore are CERTAIN to be fully booked. we need to make a booking fast enough or we might have to resort to last-minute dates that the chalets can offer, which is not very good since not all of us are free everyday.

firstly i need you guys to make a decision on WHICH chalet you guys want. there are quite a number around singapore, it just depends on what kind of activities you guys wanna do during the duration of the chalet cos the places around the chalet would make a big difference on this issue. from my own knowledge, there are chalets at these areas:

1. east coast park
2. sentosa
3. pasir ris park
4. changi
5. downtown east

apparently the changi ones are much bigger than the rest, but we most probably need someone whose parent is a civil servant or our teachers to do the booking cos there's a huge price difference in a member of the publc renting it and a civil servant. even then, we'll only be able to limit our activities to the chalet itself, and surrounding places like changi coast, the beaches & old changi hospital (not for the faint hearted). the point of getting a chalet at changi is basically cos of its size, really nothing much more. but that's my opinion anyway, it's for u guys to decide.

in the case of the other chalets, we'd most probably not be able to stuff three quarters of our classmates into one unit with enough sleeping room (i went with my class last year and we had to squeeze even though there were only 7 people). so if there are that many people staying over, i'd suggest two units or possibly a bigger one. but for that we'll get better access to more stuff to do should we get bored (e.g. sentosa, downtown east, east coast park to cycle, etc. beats changi i guess.) also, another issue is whether we'll be able to get slots for us since these chalets are the more popular ones.

basically what i need u guys to do is to drop me a message with only two pieces of information:

1. your choice of chalet location
2. the dates where you're not free

when i get the messages, i'll update this page again with names and the various information (especially the vote count for the chalet locations). then i'll leave it to audrey to decide on which one to book and on what date. as for minor activities during the chalet like bbq, dawn and i will discuss and assist. if we need help we'll ask around.

once again, do remember to submit your decision so we can make the appropriate arrangements in advance. thanks alot T8! we'll try our best to make this the best gathering for the year :)

hello class.

i'm here to give you guys an account of what happened last year during my promos.

basically, many people would want to know the reason behind me not making it past the border and to be in j2 now. firstly, i guess i wasn't motivated enough to want to get up and do work, and i didn't know what i wanted to do with my life too. i did h2 physics, math & econs, with h1 geography. my knowledge of the subject was so poor that my grades weren't even in the high range of U's. think about less than 20s and the highest being a mark from sub-pass. it was that bad.

i'd like to bring up a point mentioned by bro paul last year. he repeated it quite a number of times throughout the year. he stated that jc is very different from secondary school in a way that back in o levels, you could start mugging like two months before the exams and make it through with a relatively high grade (the lower 10's). however, it's not the case for college. last year, i just didn't believe him and left all my studying to the last minute. that was when i realised i had tonnes of paperwork to catch up with and just looking at the amount i had to do made me tired and bored already. it was too high an inertia to start with.

speaking of inertia, many of you guys i believe suffer from the same problem. it's always hard to get off your ass and start working, but when you finally find the momentum, things are so much easier and you're much happier given your reduced workload. but there's not much point in me talking about inertia now cos it's less than a month to the exams, you guys should be working already. if the timespan is not enough to frighten you guys to get on your feet, i'm not sure what kind of motivation would work for you.

by end of this year, you guys should have an idea of what you want to do with your life (not a ROUGH idea). it's your driving power. it leads you to do what you have to in order to reach that mark. by saying "what you want to do with your life", i mean in the terms of your career and your long-term goals. in the near-future, your degree will be your determinant on the career path you choose and there's no turning back. so i hope that your ambitions are not short-lived like mine.

the news of having to do another year did hit me quite badly upon receiving it, since i have never thought about it my entire life in education. i always thought i'd get through somehow, just like my sec2 streaming, where i was pushed up. i guess sometimes it's no point facing self-denial and running away from reality, but instead to grab hold of what you have control of and steer it in the direction you want it to go. when you fall, pick yourself up, dust yourselves clean and continue pressing on. a quote i remembered quite clearly in sec 4 was "the price of victory is high but so are the rewards". do think about this. there's no way your hard work disappears into thin air.

to summarise it all, i'm not here to tell you guys that repeating is bad. i really feel that i have got off on a better note and begun my real course now. the extra year did help alot. i won't be able to imagine what would happen if i'm in j2 at this point of time now. i wouldn't be able to do my A levels at all, and that situation is much worse than doing an extra year. so, if any of you think you need more time when you get your results, consider your paths VERY CAREFULLY, make sure it is really what YOU want and not what others want. it's your life and no one else is supposed to manage it for you. if you can make it to jc2, good for you. applaud yourself for being able to meet the demands of jc life. not being able to make it through does NOT mean you've failed, but rather you're just not ready for A levels yet. don't take it too hard, it's not as bad as you think. but i say again, from now on, do your best and at maximum effort. make full use of your capability, and trust me, you won't be let down at all.

i hope i've made some sense in what i've said, it's more of advice rather than what will happen so don't take it to heart. it's just my account of what i've gone through and i thought i'd share it with you guys. if any of you need anything else regarding this issue, feel free to ask me. i won't be offended.

anyway, best of luck for the rest of your studies in this final month. may God be with you.

Hello ONE AND ALL! So this place has been pretty dead lately huh. well, I'M HERE TO REVIVE IT! You can call me the revivi-nator or something. ok we'll work on that.

ANYWAY, I'm here to tell you that I'm still quite shocked over the fact that WE GOT INTO TOP 5 FOR THE SKIT!!!!!!!! It's quite unbelievable isn't it. Considering the fact that 1) our bin wasn't exactly the prettiest little thing around and 2) our skit wasn't rehearsed. like, AT ALL. hahaha (I think Mrs. Leong or someone is secretly helping us to pull strings) BUT YOU KNOW WHAT, LET'S GO AND WIN THAT $150! ok ok no no chope. we have to act as if we don't want the $150 cause it was with that attitude we got through the first 2 stages right. so. yeah. aiya whatever la chey only 150 what's the big deal. *looks around*

ooh yes basketball today! Hello class! There will be a class barbeque on the 1st of July, Youth day, as stated by the SMS you received today. Its a Sunday but the following Monday is a holiday so its okay ;)

The bbq starts at 5pm, but those who are interested can come earlier in the afternoon to play either:

3.)SWIM (there ARE shower and SAUNA facilities)
4.)TENNIS (piong you wanna bring any of ur rackets? :p)

also, we have a very special in-house cook! which is Shannon! xD

We need you guys to bring an item EACH to the bbq (see list below)

However these things are on the house: paper plates, towels, satay sticks, plastic bowls, firestarter, tongs, utensils, aluminium foil, wire mesh, rubbish bag. Corn, beef patties, beehoon, otah, fish/sotong ball and ANYTHING (yes, it IS the drink.)

IMPORTANT: to ensure minimum conflict, we have decided that it would not be a good idea for you guys to choose which food item to bring (sorry!) so we will assign them to you. we will try our best to assign the girls to lighter items. (see? we are SO NICE =DDD) If you guys have any complaints or would like to do swaps, please tag so everyone will know ;) (upon a successful swap, please drop ben an SMS so we can alter the list accordingly.)

Hello 1T08!!! Kai Shun here :)

I have a cip on hand and I'm helping my friend to recruit. This event is being organised by Citibank n YMCA. The event would most likely be held on 4 August 2007 (Saturday). There will be a total cip hour claim of 6 hrs but you would most likely be at the event for 4 hrs +. This event is a charity event so you would be trying to sell keychain-pens on that day or helping out at the booth. All proceeds of this event would be given to Club Rainbow(Singapore) which is the beneficiary of this event.

Venue would most likely be at Orchard Rd with a booth being set up there. So, if your are interested, your can contact me through msn or call/sms me at 91132502. You can pull along your other friends to do this cip too :) They too will be able to get the cip too. Or perhaps we can make this another class CIP? So Audrey, if you are reading this post, would you give it a thought about it? Haha XD

Soaking Up The Sun In Canberra

HELLO 1T08! KRYSTAL here! Sorry that I never contribute anything to the class blog cos my Blogger is in Japanese! Plus the fact that I'm too lazy to type out a post! Anyhoos, I wrote a post on my sis blog (she was away on LTC and made me her guest blogger! haha!) regarding out class CIP! So... I shall copy and paste the whole damn thing! Ok, here it goes:

With regards to the previous post, I realised I may have been a wee bit nasty. Was feeling tired after travelling (by BUS okay!) all by myself to and from Bukit Panjang for class CIP you see. Plus the fact that I had to wake up early the next day (5.30am!)... Anyways, SYU the eediotz kind of made me smile with her stupid antics on the tagboard. Posing as some Mysterious lover who lurbbeexx mooii alotxz! Heh!

So anyway, my class had planned a CIP activity today! Travelled to Canberra (not in Australia, mind you!) Primary School in the land of Far Far Away. i.e. Sembawang! Basically, our CIP activity was to be volunteers at a day camp for children... The thing is that I have a feeling that these children were problem kids. After a whole day (0800-1600!!) with the children, I realised that they can be classified into 2 main groups. They are:-

1) The hyperactive, fidgety, and extremely mischievous type who seems to be perpetually high on sugar; enjoys pretending to be Warrior Boy (yes! some bugger went around proclaiming that he was one!) and engaging in fist fights to show who's the boss. Also suffers from ADD/ADHD and is violent in nature. Surprisingly, despite being all action packed, they resembled Rolie Polie Olie!

2) The extreme opposite of Type 1. Quiet and passive, they follow orders (sit here, stand there, shut up etc.) but is too shy to do anything else. Suffers from a bad case of stuttering and low self-esteem.

Well, after registration and all, there were only a a pathetic group of... 12 children! So we got them sorted into smaller groups and I was the facilitator for 3 of them. Because my brain was a little jammed up, I couldn't help think of a proper group name... and thus had to settle for the name ''DAREDEVIL''! And the helpful little guy even thought up of a cheer that went something like this: Daredevil, Daredevil,We Are Number One! We will eat you up and beat you with blood in our hands etc. I know! It's like...OMGWTFBBQ?!?! Naturally, it was rejected which must have broke his heart! Haha... The rest of the day whizzed by in a blur as we played about a hundred lame games in the sun such as Whacko, some Spider Web thing, trying to walk blindfolded without stepping on water bombs (those lil' cheats!) blah blah...you get the picture. And this cute Lilliputian actually cried as he stepped on a water bomb unintentionally!

The highlight of the day were, you guessed it, the water bombs (and Joanna saying NA-BEH! in front of the everyone)! All of them could hardly contain their excitement and were delirious at the sight of them. Things kind of got out of hand and chaotic as we played the Dog & Bone game with the water bombs. This repulsive little simian actually threw 3 at my face and neck at a close range! Curse You! Of course I could not squish him with my thumb for fear of being reported for animal abuse. Wah laozz... I still very pissed off ok! Was soaking wet after that due to that nasty critter and the fact that while trying to burst the water bombs at my friends, the water splashed on me. Twice. What a loser! Must be bad karma!

The food was equally horrible (yellow noodles with prawns, rice with cabbage and rubber chicken) but I suppose you can't expect too much since we didn't pay any money. And I was reminded of the fact that I'm allergic to shellfish i.e. prawns, crab, LOBSTER etc! Bleddy shite! You know what that means??? It means that even if I steal a nano-sized bite of something with shellfish, my lips will will turn red, swell and rot (ok, i'm exaggerating!). All in a matter of minutes! Luckily I managed to find out the problem! So the allergic reaction is currently contained at the lips... Imagine if it did not, I may end up looking like some freak! This is sooo depressing (an emo moment here)!

Oh wells... Anyway, the kids in my group were the most well-behaved (as 2 out of 3 of them were of Type 2)and won the prize for the Most Co-operative Group! There was even a prize called the Good Progress Award (?!)! And this guy (the one who thought of the group name and the rejected cheer) actually wanted to treat us to drinks as he was feeling generous! $5.80 is a lotta money y'know!! And they were sooo thrilled at their prizes and goodie bags (cheap made-in-China stationary)... Hmm... Which made me think of the past when I was still in primary school. Easily contented, cute and innocent! HAH!

So... I guess I will have to say goodbye tomorrow as Hannah dearest will be coming home! HANNAH IS NOT DEAD ok!! My momma actually wanted to check is she was still alive on the 1st night! But I told her not to!

HELLOOOOOO one tee oh eight!

CIP today was so much better than i'd pictured though not everybody could have made it. Some of the games were pretty dry cause of people like garthick who spotlight hogged. Grr. Yes it was quite annoying and for once, Kaishun flarred up! :D He was pretty feirce actually. But i couldn't help but laugh. 7th Heaven's the BEST.

And syafiq was so adorably adorable. And nice. And supportive. My son shall be like him one day. I'm so sorry if people don't know what im talking about.

Okay first and foremost, though im already in para 3, i want to thank EVADNE! Cause i think her job was pretty tough. Since she had to shout and scream to get the children's attention. Who were pretty cooperative if they wanted to be. They're all nic I don't understand how you kept your cool most of the time. Tblematic kids in the whole school. So YES! Thank you evadne! I don't understand how you kept your cool most of the time. Though you blew up at one of two kids.But yup overall, you rocked. Thank you!

And KAISHUN! Thanks for helping me, being there for all the meetings and organising the whole thing. And for gathering everybody that day though you were sick. You're the best. (:

And as for the rest, yup thank you thank you thank you. Really. I can't imagine what the camp would have been like if one of you weren't there. There'd have been this missing thingy thingy thing.. forget it. Bottom line, i appreciate it that everyone who made it made it. :D

i am answering this in response to dawn's question.

if you fail lit for mid years, a few things will happen.
1)you get a smaller percentage of your 20% counted for promos, nothing less.
2)the fear of screwing up your h1 lit completely will somehow push you to make you strive for an A and work harder so you WON'T blow your promos.
3)in the case IF you do for literature (touchwood), you pass everything else and you make it to JC2 like the rest. simple as that.

to think of it, it's not really that easy to get your tertiary education route messed up just because of one subject. so don't worry too much. cheers. :)

You guys missed p.e today and it was the funniest p.e ever. Ask lauren sim. Leonard was hilariously enthu today. Like when everyone was fussing over.. something, Leonard took the ball, placed it right infront of the unguarded goal, smiled triumphantly to himself, made sure he had some spectators and putted the poor ball into the goal. He felt so proud of himself im sure. What an awesomely memorable first goal that probably was for him. I wish we had pictures of those.
